The Orihuela Costa Town Hall is well aware of what happened on Saturday with regards to the organisation of the free bus service. As soon as the Councillor for the Coast, Jose Antonio Aniorte, found out the seriousness of the situation, he left a family gathering in Murcia to get back to Orihuela to sort out the problem.
Extra coaches were arranged during the morning to accommodate the overwhelming amount of people wanting to use the free bus service. More than 700 people arrived to take advantage of the service, which was completely unexpected and is nearly treble the amount that used it last year.
The Councillor called Costa Azul Buses to arrange the extra coaches and when the extra coaches were arranged, he made a point of ensuring that extra coaches would be available for the afternoon/evening. Obviously, that was not to be the case and for that the Town Hall can only apologise for the distress and inconvenience caused, especially as this has overshadowed what was a fantastic day out for everybody.
A full inquiry into the incident is currently being made by Town Hall officials to ascertain what happened and why there was a breakdown in communication and we can assure residents that a better system will be put in place in the future for events like this.
