A NEW surgery for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer has opened for the northern Almeria health area. More than 26,000 cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed in Spain every year.
The service, offered by the Digestive System Unit, is located at the outpatients’ surgery of La Inmaculada Hospital in Huercal Overa. It aims to develop early detection of this type of tumour, which is one of the most frequent, and has already benefited 200 people.
Early detection can reduce deaths from the illness between 30 and 35 per cent.
