‘I’M very tired, but very happy’ said Polish extreme sportsman and stunt cyclist, Krystian Herba, after cycling to the top floor of Benidorm’s 52-floor skyscraper, the Gran Hotel Bali, Benidorm’s and Europe’s tallest hotel. And all on a mountain bike via the emergency staircase that runs the entire height of the building.
The ascent, which took place last Thursday, covered 921 steps and took Krystian 19 minutes and 27 seconds to reach the top of the 186 metre hotel, by literally bouncing his way up the 900 steps on his bike. El Mundo reported that his chosen method was to bounce up two or three steps at a time. Taking the stairs takes on a whole new meaning with the young Polish athlete.
Sensibly, after completing the feat, he then descended in the lift. ‘The trip up was enough’, he joked.
Krystian had previously conquered other tall buildings in Europe and, for his next challenge, will be attempting a 61-storey skyscraper in Frankfurt. Next year he plans to take on the highest hotel in the world, the 72-storey 333 metre Rose of Royaan in Dubai.
Only recently the Moroccan funambulist (tightrope walker) Mustafa Danger broke the world record for tightrope walking (on a bike) when he traversed the gap between the Bali Hotel and the adjacent Tossal peak, at a height of one hundred and seventy five metres and over a distance of five hundred metres.
