THE budget airline Ryanair continued its expansion of routes out of Alicante’s El Altet airport with  the announcement last Friday of two new services to Finland and Lithuania. Both routes will commence this coming January.

In addition the national sales of the company has confirmed the summer restoring of international connections between Alicante and the cities of Stockholm, Vasteras and Smaland (Sweden), Wroclaw, Poznan and Gdansk (Poland), Knock and Kerry (Ireland), Doncaster (United Kingdom), Fez (Morocco), Pisa (Italy) and national routes to Palma de Mallorca, Santander and Valladolid.

Regardless of the bad press received by the Irish carrier in recent times, it still bucks the trend of contraction within the airline industry as a whole, and continues to expand its services here in Alicante, allowing reverse tourism with Spanish residents now being able to travel directly from Alicante to international destinations that were previously beyond the reach of the average tourist, through prohibitive costs and transfer delays in having to first travel to another hub airport and change planes en route.
