EIGHT in ten bars and cafés in Malaga break the law by not properly displaying their price lists at the entrance, consumer Group Facua has revealed. For most people, price is one of the most important factors when deciding what to order when they eat out, especially during the current economic climate.
However, a field study showed that of 70 Malaga establishments which were checked, in addition to the 80 per cent which did not display their price tariff on the door, 20 per cent didn’t have it on display inside either.
Another issue affecting 4 per cent of the establishments checked in Malaga was that they did not show the price of certain menu items, saying “price according to market value” instead, which is illegal.
A further 13 per cent fail to exhibit a sign informing clients of the existence of a complaints book, or have the sign hidden.
Three per cent don’t have a complaints book at all.
Meanwhile, 14 per cent have steps at the entrance which are too high for disabled and wheelchair bound people to access.
This is illegal if the establishment was opened or refurbished after the regional law regarding the handicapped came into effect.
Forty per cent of the bars did not have a toilet adapted for the disabled. Four per cent had unpackaged perishable foods kept outside glass cabinets, but only three per cent failed the hygiene test.
Nationally, one in three bars of the 702 checked by Facua in 14 provincial capitals did not have a price list on display to customers.
